There are so many reasons to discover Michaan’s Auctions this month. The colorful Kandinsky woodcut and the linocut by Louise Nevelson, Chiura Obata’s 1948 ink on paper “In the Clouds,” and “Cowboy on Horseback” by California artist Edward Borein (1872-1945). The charming lady carved of alabaster by a 19th-century Florentine sculptor, and “Boxing Match,” the oil and pastel by Edy-Legrand, dynamic 20th- century French illustrator and painter. In fine jewelry, gold is abundant and colorful precious gemstones lead the highlights. Ruby, tanzanite and Tahitian black cultured pearl rings are offered. The 14k yellow gold necklace features thirty-seven bezel-set stones including pink tourmaline, blue topaz, amethyst and citrine. Estate jewels include the pendant brooch of emeralds and diamonds surrounding a stunning emerald cabochon. Great style is easily found in the furniture department, with a red leather English library chair, brightly-painted Dutch armoire and Karl Springer’s fabulous snakeskin tables on offer this month. Jewelry lovers will delight in the sterling suite by Antonio Piñeda, Chanel’s J12 black ceramic and stainless steel wristwatch and the big, beautiful pear-shaped diamond solitaire ring. Offered for online and absentee bidding only, Michaan’s May Gallery Auction brings you Louis Icart’s glamorous Art Deco etchings, fine Chinese porcelains, estate diamonds and rare books of the Old West. M.C. Escher and Peter Max are among the featured artists. Fine art works by American women are highlighted, including the innovative woodcuts of Bertha Lum (1869-1954). Chinese porcelains include the lustrous jade green Lung Chu’an vase, the black Ding ware Yuhuchun vase and a selection of fine blue and white pieces. May’s estate jewels include the gorgeous solitaire diamond ring of nearly three carats and the stunning white gold bib necklace dripping with fine diamonds.
