Two Large Han Dynasty Pottery Vases with Lids

The first of globular form rising from a spreading foot to waisted neck, the body molded with two opposing fixed ring taotie masks between two incised double-line horizontal borders, covered with a persimmon glaze, the cover with a carved twist-rope band the second of globular form, with similar taotie mask handles on the broad shoulders surmounted by a tall tapering neck with wide everted mouth, covered with a green glaze, the cover carved in relief with an archaistic design with a raised inner border with three raised bosses.
Tallest: 16 1/2 inches (41.9 cm).
