Pietro Barucci, Stagno Maccarese, oil on canvas.

Lot: 3162

(Italian,1845-1917),
Stagno Maccarese, 1897,
oil on canvas,
(approximate dimensions - canvas: 32 x 79 inches),
signed lower right, P. Barucci, Roma dated 1897 verso.
Provenance: Alexander di Carcaci, London Private Collection, Atherton, CA.
Condition: Very good. Craquelure throughout, appropriate to age. No areas of inpainting when examined under blacklight. Some minor splits to the surface moulding of the frame itself, as well as some minor losses and wear.
Notes: Frame has wear, approximate dimensions - framed: 50 x 96 inches. Further details: A member of the Roman Campagna Romana Artists, Barucci is particularly appreciated for his capacity in depicting the essence of the Roman countryside and its swamp waters, the natural habitat of water buffalos. The stagno macarese is the area of land which now extends beyond what is now known as the airport of Fiumicino. Due to the scale of this painting, it was quite possibly painted for an international exhibition. The artist studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma. His work was exhibited at the Belle Arti di Roma in 1883, in Chicago in 1893, and at the Salon des Independants in Paris in 1907.
