Fine Pair of Italian Marble Busts of King Ferdinand V and Queen Isabella of Spain together with a Renaissance Style Marble Console. Ferdinand depicted with a noble, imperious gaze and flowing tresses, wearing a lace ruff and loose robes, on a shaped laurel draped socle inscribed FERDINANDO V the beautiful Isabella with upswept hair wearing a diadem, an elaborate lace ruff and pearls on a shaped laurel draped socle inscribed REGINA ISABELLA the stand with a generous rectangular white veined marble top on fluted scrolled supports. Christopher Columbus, Italian explorer and adventurer, sought and received the patronage of Ferdinand and Isabella. His expedition to find a shorter route to Asia set ashore in North America, establishing Spains supremacy among European powers in the New World. Busts, Late 19th Century.
