EDWARD GREENE MALBONE (American 1777-1807) Miniature of Peter Bours Painted portrait sealed in metal casing. Case 3 5/8 x 2 1/2 inches. No visible signature. Provenance Miniature of Peter Bours born 1783, Newport RI. died 1860, Geneva N.Y. He was the grand father of Mrs. Frederica Bours Hoisholt wife of Dr. Andrew W. Hoisholt. The miniature of Peter Bours is the work of Edward Greene Malbone, one the foremost miniature painters of his day. This is for A.V. Walsh. (This provenance is included on a hand written card Noted in the Check list of Miniatures within New England Miniatures 1750-1850 Museum of Fine Arts Boston page iii second from last in the right column. (This list reports the miniatures of New England persons painted between 1750 and 1850, as recorded at the Museum of Fine Arts by their owners. Miniatures in public collections are not included here, but a list of public collections containing a substantial number of New England miniatures, is given at the back of the catalogue.) Unable to open case due to construction.
