The sale includes several examples of stamped French furniture of the 1720 -1760 period, as well as Italian early Baroque furniture. Assembled over 50 years, the house includes an extraordinary Grotto Room, with Venetian Rococo silvered furniture and a modern console table, pier mirror; pair of mirrors and brackets. In addition to furnishings, the collection boasts a diverse selection of 17th – 19th Century decorations such items of Derbyshire spar or Blue John urn, bronze sculptures, porcelains from Nymphenburg, Sèvres, St. Cloud and Chantilly; Chinese and Japanese porcelain; miniatures, and medals. Despite its small scale, the jewelbox of a home also includes several late 16th – 18th Century tapestries, voided velvets, screens, clocks, and rugs.
Art in this auction includes ‘Narcissus tempted by love,’ an oil by Anton Wilhelm Tischbein (German, 1730-1804); an allegorical painting attributed to Pieter Verbrugghen and Pieter Ykens, and a School of Sir Peter Lely three-quarter length alluring portrait of a court beauty.
