Each dish elegantly potted with rounded sides rising from a short tapered foot to a delicately flared mouth rim, finely decorated to the interior with a five-clawed dragon enclosed within a single-line border, the exterior walls with further dragons, all reserved against stylized patterns of crashing waves in underglaze blue, the mouth embellished with double concentric borders on the interior and a frieze of florets on the exterior, the recessed base inscribed in underglaze blue with a six-character Qianlong mark.
Diameter: 6 7/8 inches (17.4 cm).
Condition: One dish with tiny chips to the rim. The other with an area of restoration and chips to the rim.

Yonzheng Period (1723-1735).
Both thinly potted and inscribed on one side with poetry from the Tang Dynasty with illegible iron-red seals, one bowl elegantly painted with a butterfly resting on a leafy gourd vine with curly tendrils accented with delicate iron-red details, and the other with a spreading branch bearing pomegranates and flowers.

Modeled half-seated on a tall shaped plinth, the human head with a bulbous nose and bulging eyes below three conical flanges and tall spiraling horn, all flanked by elephant-like ears, the leonine body bearing blade-shaped projections on the shoulders and upright flat wings at the top of each front leg, the rear legs folded and terminating in horse-like hoofs, the surfaces exhibiting traces of black, red, and white pigments.

Provenance: This painting was owned by Leo Huberman who was a personal friend of Benton. Upon his death the paintings were inherited by the nieces and nephews of Leo. This painting was given to his niece Jamie Huberman. It has been in the possession of Jamie, who has since passed, since Leos death.
Exhibition History: Kean College of N.J. (Loan inventory number 72.75)and displayed in an exhibition at the Newark Museum (in NJ) sometime in the 1970s or 80s.

Scenes of pastroral life including hunters, washerwomen, cockerel, children at play, sheering sheep, ducks before verdure, strawberries, cranes, and musicians playing flute and lyre. Featuring snow-capped mountains, tall trees, fences, and many kinds of home. The border of spiralling flowers and berries. With sage green cotton canvas backing. The outermost border and loops to top are a later, modern addition to decrease stress on the fibers. This item ships with a hanging rod.
No marks.
71 1/2 x 101 1/2 not including the loops to top. The rod 117 L. x 4 Diameter.
Very good condition overall. Discoloration due to sun exposure, far left upper corner, and far left lower corner. The colors are very good and bright, albeit greens appear to have faded.
