This work would benefit from being re-framed as the plexi glass does not sit well in the frame structure but this has not effected the print itself.

The design attributed to Eugene Soligny. The round bowl with scalloped rim and spreading foot over a wide band chased and repousse in Chrysanthemum pattern over a band of lotus leaves. To each side, the head of a caparisoned elephant, with trunk extended.

Two American Folk Art Carved and Polychrome Painted Standing Figures, Production Bosses

New York or Connecticut.
Circa 1960.
Attributed to John Vivolo (1886-1987). Two carved wood plaster and painted figures of standing males, taller example with a stick of dynamite in his left hand. Now mounted on black flat, square steel bases.

Sellen, Betty Carol and Cynthia J. Johanson, Self-Taught, Outsider and Folk Art: A Guide to American Artists, Locations and Resources, (Self Published: McFarland Co.: 2000).
Larger figure in moderate condition, although there is a visible seam tears, right and side at waist level and again to center back and toward left rear of waist minor flaking to enamels losses and damage to left heel of shoe seams visible to both shoes. Smaller figure in good to very good condition absent one finger, left hand visible seam to right arm and some losses to paint at seam there.
John Vivolo, born in Italy, arrived to the US poor, and worked a variety of jobs including as a dynamiter. His wife died in 1931, leaving him as sole carer for their many children. Vivolo eventually moved from New York to Bloomfield, Connecticut. His distinctive carvings started after he retired in the late 1950s.
