Hand colored copper engraved map with Dutch text verso from the J. Blaeus Grooten Atlas. Hand colored copper engraved map with text verso.
Sheet: 17 3/4 x 23 3/4 inches. Sheet: 19 x 23 inches.
CONDITION: Flandriae in overall good condition, wear consistent with age and being unframed. Foxing throughout, with some tearing and toning around the edges and down the center fold. The colors have faded and the sheet would benefit from being framed. East Indies in overall good condition, staining throughout, with wear to the edges of the sheet consistent with age. The coloring it bright with only minor fading. Would benefit from being framed.
Dutch Map of the East Indies: Important early map of Southeast Asia and the Philippines, and a landmark in the mapping of Australia, first published by Jan Jansson in 1630. This is also the only Dutch printed map showing the 1606 discoveries of Willem Jansz, who in the Duyfken is attributed as making the first recorded European discovery of Australia, mapping the Cape York Peninsula.

Condition: Surface wear throughout. Break and chipping to the marble paneling. The top has holes indicating that its not finished and is meant to have some kind of marble top.
