Condition: Good overall condition. Three 1/4 chips to sawtooth edge, the bowl. Two shallow chips and several nicks to the second item. The 8 dish with 1/2 shallow chip to edge several teeth with chips, nicks. Various light scratches and chips.

Yellow Gold Ring with George Washingtons Hair

The yellow gold ring with rectangular setting, black enamel centers woven with 6 strands of George Washingtons hair.
The hair is accompanied by a letter detailing how this ring came to be. In short, the letter states GW gave a lock of hair to his godson Washington Stewart, the son of General Stewart of Philadelphia, who gave a portion to W. Desmond of Philadelphia, whose wife gave the letter writer 6 strands. The letter writer then took the strands to a jeweler to have the ring made. The signature to the letter appears to read Margaretta M. Hale and is dated Oct 3rd 1862.


This is also accompanied by a newspaper clipping detailing the sale of such ring at John Fiske Collection auction for 480 in 1913.
Condition: Minor wear and patina.
The ring tested at 14 karats.

JOSEPHUS holding upright the baby Jesus in his arms, surrounded by silver and gilt thread ribbons, in a shadowbox frame the second with an altar shaped silk stuffed ink painted image of a nun with shepherds crook, within sequied, ribbons, floral and faux gem surround, within giltwood shaped frame.
Approximate Measurements: 12 x 10 x 2 1/2 inches, the larger. 8 x 6 x2 1/4 inches, the smaller.
Basically very good condition. The St Joseph: Light smudge to watercolor, upper corner some rough areas and gilt losses to frame. Losses to frame, upper left area light wear and fading.
