Mr. Morais started dealing in New Orleans as early as the 40s and as late as the 1960s. The large baluster form body brilliantly enameled to depict five songbirds perched on flowering trees and bamboo breaches near rocky outcrop, inscribed on the reverse, signed with two artist red seals (Cheng Yiting, 1895-1948), the recessed base inscribed with a three-character mark in copper red glaze, reading: Pei Gu Zhai. Height: 27 inches (68.5 cm).
Possibly Transitional period (1620-1683) Well potted, the body decorated with colorful dragons, peacocks within lotus scrolls, crashing waves, and floral bands, six-character Wanli mark on bottom of the rim. Height 18 inches (45.7 cm).
Chinese Famille Rose Porcelain Baluster Vase with Base
Circa: 20th Century. The pear shape body applied with two elephant head handles to the shoulders, enameled to each side with a rectangular panel containing river and mountain landscapes, between two smaller circular panels of similar design, reserved on a pink ground enriched with banana leaves and ruyi-head pendant bands and floral roundels, atop at fitted wood base. Height 19 5/8 inches (49.8 cm) with base.
The tall cylindrical body with two large shaped cartouches closing birds and peonies scenes,decoration, all reserved on a bright orange ground highlighted with gilt outlines. Height 24 3/4 inches (62.5cm). Condition: Minor surface wear, light paint losses.
Chinese Famille Rose Enamelled Bird and Flower Vase
Finely potted, a globular body connected to a cylindrical neck, brightly enameled with birds perched on flowering trees branches among blooming peonies, all reserves on a blue ground, six-Character apocryphal Yongzheng underglaze blue mark inscribed in a double-lined circle to the recessed base. Height 13 1/4 inches (33.6 cm).
Painted with large panels of a bird perched within flowering branches, all reserved on a green whorl ground surrounded by scrolling foliage and stylized flowerheads, with fitted wood base. Height 18 1/2 inches (46.9 cm) with base.
The globular body raising on a separate waisted pedestal base, painted in brightly hued famille rose enamels to depict two maidens reading by the table set in a lavish studio, the revised side with poetic inscription. Height 12 inches (30.4 cm) with base. Condition: A chip on the bottom rim.
Of flattened oval form rising from a spreading rectangular foot to a cylindrical neck with an everted mouth, the shoulder applied with double taotie masks suspending rings, the body cast in relief with archaic scrolls, the cover similarly decorated in relief and set with a loop handle. Of mountain-shaped vessel with openwork rid, all rising from a bronze bird standing on a turtle, atop a broad dish with an everted rim. Height: Approximately 9 inches (22.8 cm). Condition: Oxidation and patina, age weathered surfaces.
The censer of inverted bell form resting on four elephant-head supports and cast to either side with archaistic handles, the base with a four-character cartouche reading Wu Bang Zuo Zhi. Height: 4 3/4 inches (12 cm).
A Chinese Bronze Alloy Archaistic Wine Vessel Jue Cup
Cast with registers of taotie masks, and their bodies are formed of scrolls and parallel wing motifs, supported on three tapered blade legs. Height 8 1/4 inches (20.9 cm). Condition: Oxidation and patina, age weathered surfaces.
A Chinese Gilt Bronze and Copper Alloy Figure of Buddha
Modeled seated in dhyanasana atop a lotus throne, the hands in bhumisparsha mudra, attired in layered robes detailed with draping folds and incised floral hems, loosely open at the bare chest, the face with downcast eyes and meditative expression beneath the ushnisha formed with tightly coiled curls. Height: 10 1/8 inches (25.7 cm). Condition: Wear to surfaces, repairs, losses to the ears.
Qing Dynasty. Reclining dragon on a rectangular platform with cloven hooves and head turned to look back, intricately molded hair form patterns along the spine, crest, and end of the tail, a six-character Da Qing Qian Long Nian Zhi mark on base. Width 7 inches (17.7 cm).
Late 19th or early 20th century. Finely tailored with a central opening, embroidered in couched gilt and polychrome threads with satin stitches and forbidden stitches, displaying roundels containing graceful flower branches, butterflies, foliated borders, and sleeve bands on ivory and blue satin ground, lined. Length: 51 inches (129.5 cm). Condition: Some fraying and fuzz.
Worked on the front and back in couched gold thread, satin stitch with nine powerful five-clawed dragons clutching or pursuing flaming pearls amidst bats, terrestrial diagrams, and other auspicious symbols, all above rolling waves and Lishui stripe at the hem, lined with blue silk. Length: 59 inches (150 cm).
Late 19th to early 20th Century. The first, a cream ground skirt, the front and side panels elaborately embroidered in couched gilt threads and silk floss with flower vases, bonsai tree, incense burner and precious objects, lined with embroidered foliated bands and borders, the skirt panels embroidered with further floral decoration separated with black strips the second, a green ground skirt with two finely embroidered peony and floral panels, the bright red silk brocade woven with large peony flowers, lined with green-blue butterflies and floral decorated ribbons and black satin bands. Length: 36 inches (29.5 cm). Condition: Age related losses, fade and soil.
Carved openwork with gilt coloring, military or civilian figures are standing and sitting inside pavilions, all reserved on a trellis-diaper ground, each fitted in lucite cases. Size of frame: 35.5 x 22.5 inches (90.1 x 57.1 cm).
Four Panel Chinese Coromandel Black Lacquer Screen
Each panel is finely embellished with colored soapstone and semiprecious stone, depicting various flower vases and precious objects, all reserved on black lacquer ground, the borders with mother of pearl inlaid, the reverse incised and painted with birds and flowers. Each panel: H 72 x W 16 1/8 inches (182.8 x 40.9 cm).
Painted with a hawk in a slightly mirror image, both sitted on a plum tree and pine tree and gaze at each other, with two seals on each side. Opened: H 53 1/2 x W 46 3/4 inches (135.8 x 118.7 cm). Condition: Water damaged.
The unique Chinese rosewood rounded corner desk with two matching stools, all side panels similarly carved in relief with Shou longevity roundel and key-fret motif. Dimension of the desk: 35 5/8 inches (91 cm) x 29 1/2 inches (75.5 cm) x 21 1/2 inches (54.5cm).
Including a landscape scene with figure walking on bridge, a squirrel on branch, and white flower with gilt, all stamped. Largest frame: H 14 1/2 x W 26 3/8 inches (36.8 x 66.9 cm).
Comprising three red satin silk fan holders and three black satin silk fan holders, each embroidered with floral, archaistic coin, and double gourd motif, frame and glazed. The first, ink on paper calligraphy fan painting by an unknown artist, in the regular scriptsigned: Zhu Fu Qing, Framed and glazed the second, ink and color on paper fan painting Lotus, in the style of Ren Yi (1840-1895) also known as Ren Bonian, dedicated to Xiao Xiang. Inscribed and dated with one artist seal, framed and glazed. Width of the largest fan painting: 20 3/4 inches (52.5 cm).
