Japanese Taish Period Satsuma Yoshiyama Ceramic Vase
Circa 1920. Tapered fluted form with two gilt-dragon handles Mount Fuji landscape to one side, Japanese city scene opposite, in a surround of cherry blossoms and butterflies gilt trim throughout. The underside inscribed with Yoshiyama below a Shimazu family crest, gilt writing on black. Approximate dimensions: 15 high x 11 wide x 8 inches deep.. Condition: Crazing throughout. Very light wear overall.

Of pear-shaped form rising from a short spreading foot to a tall cylindrical neck with flaring rim, the body finely painted with a natural composition by a fairy stone, willow branches, peony bushes, and two couple of lovebirds in various color, inscribed with the poem in Chinese, three red marks, the base with six Chinese characters Qianlong Mark. Height 10.2 inches (25.9 cm).
The tall body raised from splayed foot to flared rim, the exterior decorated with chasing cranes and beasts with stylized clouds bands, ruyi bands around the rim and flower lappets on foot, the interior painted with a scroll border along the inner rim, the base with Jiaqing mark in the underglaze double circle. Height 4.9 inches (12.4 cm).
With two openwork dragon handles, the rounded blue and white panel on the center, depicting a natural scene with a house on the river, the celadon glazed body raised on oval tapered foot. Height: 13 7/8 inches (35.3 cm).
Of compressed globular form surmounted by a tall waisted neck with cupped mouth, elegantly carved with leafy vines issuing flowers with rope borders on the shoulders and mouth, the recessed base with a six-character Qianlong mark in underglaze blue. Height: 13 inches (33 cm). Condition: Cracks and small associated chips to the mouth.
The first, modeled after an archaic jade cong, with eight raised horizontal bands within a raised rectangular frame on each corner, all between a cylindrical foot and neck, applied with a crackle-suffused sea-green glaze except for the foot ring burnt orange in the firing the second, the body of square section carved and molded with the Bagua and yin-yang symbols, all on a spreading foot rising to a tapering neck with everted mouth, covered with a lustrous celadon glaze draining to pale bluish-white at the raised edges and pooling to sea-green at the recessed areas.
Rising from a broad flat base, the well-potted body with gently rounded shoulders sweeping up to a waisted neck encircled with a raised filet below a garlic bulb mouth, flanked by a pair of ruyi scepter handles, overall decorated with flower, stem, leaves motifs in copper red, the key fret on the foot, the base inscribed with a six-character Xuande mark. Height 8 inches (20.3 cm). Condition: Wear commensurate with age.
Well potted, decorated in polychrome enamel and gilt highlights with three sections, one features a landscape scene with a pavilion, the second has five figures by the stream, and the third contains white and blue flowers with stems, the exterior painted and decorated with stylized feathers, a makers mark inscribed on the bottom. Diameter: 14 1/2 inches (36.8 cm). Condition: Chips and gilt loss throughout. Metal knot attached on the foot ring for hanging.
Cast with two figures and various auspicious symbols including cash. Diameter: 3 1/4 inches (8.4 cm). Condition: Overall wear, small dents, small crack.
Modeled seated in vajrasana on a tall lotus throne, holding celestial ribbons in the hands, wearing a dhoti and draped shawl, inscribed Da Ming Yongle nian shi on the back of the base. Height: 9 1/2 inches (24.1 cm). Condition: Some wear, chips, nicks, gilding loss, corrosion.
The first, painted in gilt, black and red pigment with figures in a mountainous seascape with pagodas and pavilions the second, carved in relief with cash and double-bat designs on the recessed waist, further cash between stylized scrolls in openwork on the apron. First: 18 1/8 high x 40 wide x 19 3/4 inches deep (46 x 101.6 x 50.1 cm) second: 33 1/8 high x 46 5/8 wide x 15 1/4 inches deep (84.1 x 118.4 x 38.7 cm). Condition: The first with extensive wear, cracks and associated losses to surfaces. The second with extensive wear, losses, loosened joints.
